Granite stains more easily than Formica and other surfaces simply because it is more porous. The pores act as a sponge and allow liquids and chemicals to penetrate the surface, creating stains. When used on countertops, granite usually has a protective surface applied to the surface to cut down on stains. This is not the case for granite installed in walkways and other heavily traveled areas, however. Removing stains from granite can be a time-consuming task. In order to properly remove the stains, you need to determine what the cause of the stain is and go from there.
