Adhere a piece of blue painter’s tape to the exterior of the center of the drawer. Note that the tape will help protect the surface of the drawer from the power drill and will help control splintering.
Position a straightedge across two diagonal corners of the face of the drawer. Make a pencil mark on the painter’s tape. Reposition the straight edge across the two remaining diagonal corners. Make a pencil mark that intersects the first mark. Note that the point where the two marks meet is the center of the drawer face.
Insert a 3/16-inch-diameter drill bit into a power drill.
Place the point of the drill bit onto the intersecting point of the two pencil marks. Hold the drill at a right angle to the drawer face so that the hole will be straight. Start the drill and bore completely through the drawer face.
Remove the painter’s tape.
Insert the knob retaining screw through the back side of the drilled hole so that the threads are protruding through the drawer face.
Thread the knob onto the screw.
Hold the knob while tightening the screw with a Phillips screwdriver.
