How to Make Floor Drains Stop Smelling

Sink and tub drains can be some of the dirtiest and germ-filled places in a home. Waste goes down the drain just like garbage into a trash can. Some of the waste funnels away down the pipes but sometimes, leftover waste sticks around. Shower floor drains gather hair and dirt that may cause a foul odor to emanate from the tub over time.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Put on a pair of gloves. Loosen the screws on the floor drain cover and remove the drain. Clean out any matter within your reach. If it is difficult to reach some of the hair matter, use a pair of tweezers or a coat hanger.

    • 2

Use a drain blaster to push any waste that might be stuck in the pipes down. Blast the drain at least three times.

    • 3

Pour two cups of bleach down the cleared drain.

    • 4

Sprinkle baking soda around the drain opening and on the cover. Wipe down the area you can reach inside of the drain as well as the drain cover with a rag or paper towel soaked in white distilled vinegar.
