How to Oil a Squeaky Fridge Door

It’s a fact of life that anything with a hinge will eventually get squeaky, and that includes things that you wouldn’t ordinarily think of, for example, the refrigerator door. To prevent the door from squeaking every time you open and close it, it should be oiled every year. Oiling the door requires more than just opening it and spraying an oil-based lubricant into the general area of the hinges. To do it properly, you need an assistant and a silicone lubricant that will last longer and be more effective than an oil-based one.

Instructions

    • 1

Empty the shelves on the refrigerator and freezer doors, leaving them open.

    • 2

Undo the screws that hold the refrigerator door in place. Leave the screw in the door, but loosen it enough for you to be able to lift the door up slightly and get underneath the parts of the hinge.

    • 3

Have your assistant hold the door in place.

    • 4

Spray silicone oil into the space between the hinge rest and the door. Repeat this until all of the hinges have been lubed.

    • 5

Lower the door back into place and tighten the screws.

    • 6

      Repeat with the freezer door.
