How to Remove Scratches From LG Hi-Mac Counters

LG HI-MACS surfaces are engineered to be durable. LG offers a 15-year warranty for each installed countertop. But while tough, LG HI-MACS counters are not infallible. Over the years, they are bound to develop a few surface scratches. Luckily, these surface imperfections are easy to remove. LG recommends the certain tools and techniques to remove surface scratches and restore your counter.

Things You'll Need

  • #7448 ultra-fine Scotch Brite pad
  • 120-grit sanding block
  • 220-grit sanding block
  • 320-grit sanding block
  • Sponge
  • Detergent

Instructions

  1. Remove Fine Surface Scratches

    • 1

      Wipe the counter's surface free of any dirt or debris with a damp sponge buff the area dry.

      Moisten a Scotch Brite pad with water. It's all right if it is dripping a little. The water acts as a lubricant.

      Rub the Scotch Brite pad over the scratches using a circular, buffing motion. Keep scrubbing until the scratches are no longer visible.

      Clean the spot with a soapy sponge and rinse with a clean sponge. Use any pH neutral or slightly basic non-abrasive cleaning product. Liquid detergent soap works well.

    Remove Deep Scratches

      Wipe the counter's surface free of any dirt or debris with a damp sponge and buff the area dry.

      Sand out deep scratches with 120-grit sandpaper. Rub the sandpaper over the scratches at a 90 degree angle to the scratches or in a circular motion if the scratches run in a variety of directions.

      Smooth out the sanding marks made with the 120-grit sandpaper with the 220-grit sandpaper.

      Smooth out the sanding marks made with the 220-grit sandpaper using 320-grit sandpaper.

      Restore the LG HI-MACS finish with a Scotch Brite pad. Moisten the Scotch Brite pad with water. It's all right if it is dripping a little. The water acts as a lubricant. Rub the Scotch Brite pad over the scratches using a circular, buffing motion. Keep scrubbing until the scratches fade away.
