How to Cover Scuff Marks on a Leather Jacket

Leather jackets are classic fashion pieces. But when the leather gets scuffed by rubbing against a hard surface, you'll want to cover the scuff marks with products that can restore color and sheen to damaged areas of the leather.

Things You'll Need

  • Leather cleaner
  • Leather recoloring balm or dye

Instructions

    • 1

Test a small, inconspicuous area of the leather to make sure there is no color loss caused by leather cleaner. If there are no problems, spray the cleaner on the jacket. Wipe off the cleaner with a dry cloth.

    • 2

Rub a small amount of leather dye or leather recoloring balm in the same shade as your jacket onto the scuffs with a soft sponge. Add additional layers, if needed, to match the color of the rest of the jacket.

    • 3

Allow the dye or balm to remain on the scuff for the length of time recommended by the manufacturer, then buff the area with a soft, clean cloth.

    • 4

Condition the leather with a pH-balanced leather conditioner spray or cream. Work the product into the pores of the leather to restore suppleness and extend the life of your garment.
