How to Raise a Projection TV

Rear-projection TVs are much heavier than flat panel televisions. Because of this, many people do not mount the TV to the wall. Mounting a rear projection TV is basically the same as mounting a flat panel TV. The difference is that rear projection TVs require a shelf to hold the TV. You don’t have to be a carpenter to mount your rear projection TV on your wall. You can do it yourself with a mounting kit and a few common tools.

    • 1

Put the wall mount up to the wall where you want to mount the TV. Make sure the shelf for your TV is facing the sitting area in your home.

    • 2

Place a stud finder to your wall to locate the studs. Use a pencil to mark where the studs are located.

    • 3

Put the wall mount up to the marks and use your pencil to mark the holes where the mounting screws will go through the mount. The mounting screws will be included in your mounting kit.

    • 4

Use a level to make sure that the mount is level on the wall.

    • 5

Look at your mounting kit's instructions to get the screw size. Use the screw size to figure out the drill bit size you need. Use a drill to drill the screws through the mounting holes on the mount and then into the studs.

Put the rear projection TV on the mount shelf. Use the strap on the shelf to secure the TV to the mount. The strap comes preinstalled on the shelf. Tighten the strap on the shelf to secure the TV.
