Removing Scratches in Wood Paneling

Wood paneling is generally a low-maintenance wall covering but can develop scratches. Scratches in wood paneling can be subtle or obvious, depending on the location and depth of the scratches. Repairing these scratches is usually a simple matter of filling in the area with colored wax and adjusting the color with shoe polish. You can easily repair scratches in wood paneling yourself, even if you have never repaired any wall damage before.

Instructions

    • 1

Gather crayons in colors that match the colors in your wood paneling.

    • 2

Shave small amounts of crayon with scissors into a microwave-safe container. Microwave the container for a few seconds at a time until the wax is completely melted.

    • 3

Use a toothpick to pick up a small amount of melted crayon wax and drip it into the scratch. Do not worry about getting the wax perfectly into place.

    • 4

Allow the wax to cool and harden.

    • 5

Use the back of a butter knife to scrape the wax even with the rest of the wood paneling. If you need additional coloring to blend the area in, apply a small amount of brown or black shoe polish to a cotton swab and dab the shoe polish along the repaired area.

    • 6

Buff the area with a soft cloth to blend the repaired area with the wood paneling.
