Removing Scratches From a Stone Tile

One of the many advantages of stone tile is its durability, but natural stone is still prone to damage. Moving furniture without rollers or casters can damage and scratch the floor, as can regular foot traffic over time. Keeping a close eye out for scratches and repairing those scratches as quickly as possible, is the best way to keep your stone tile floor looking like new for years to come.

Instructions

    • 1

Soak a paper towel in mineral oil. Rub the paper towel back and forth over the scratch using medium pressure. Oiling stone tile is often enough to remove light scratches from the surface.

    • 2

Place a piece of 100-grit sandpaper on a hand sander and rub the scratch out. Apply mineral oil with a paper towel after the sanding is complete.

    • 3

Buff small scratches out with a dry steel wool pad. Rub the steel wool over the surface to remove the scratches.

    • 4

Wet down the tile and look for the scratch. If the scratch isn't visible when the tile is wet, use a color enhancer designed for stone tile to hide the scratch.
