How to Lubricate a Drawer With Plastic Runners

Many pieces of furniture have plastic drawer runners and slides. Plastic runners and slides are lighter and less expensive than their metal counterparts. Plastic also requires a different lubricating method. Buy a can of spray lubricant containing white lithium grease, which is safe to use on plastic. Lubricating a drawer takes less than a minute.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the drawer from the furniture, and raise the front at an angle to remove it.

    • 2

Set the drawer on its side on an old towel to protect the floor or counter where you're working.

    • 3

Shake a can of white lithium grease spray lubricant. Spray short bursts of the lithium grease on the plastic runner on each side of the drawer. On some drawers, the runner may be on the bottom.

    • 4

Wipe away excess lubricant with a paper towel, and reinsert the drawer.

    • 5

Slide the drawer in and out several times to work the lubricant into the runners.
