How to Hang a Guitar From the Wall by Using Its Strap

A guitarist sometimes needs to put his instrument down for short periods of time when playing or practicing. Putting the guitar back into its case every time could be a significant hassle. Guitar stands and wall mounts provide other options for temporary storage. Guitar stands take up floor space, which might not always be available. Wall mounts hang guitars by holding the headstock. A common misconception is that this can damage the guitar. However, some guitars do not have headstocks or ones capable of fitting into wall mounts. The only alternative is to hang these guitars on the wall by their straps.

Instructions

Locate a stud on the wall. The easiest method is to use a stud finder and mark the location of the stud with a pencil. If you do not have a stud finder, you can tap on the wall with your hand. If the wall does not sound hollow, it means you are tapping a stud. The tapping method can be significantly less reliable than a using a stud finder.

Hold the wall hook up to the surface of the wall. Mark the screw holes on the wall with a pencil. If you are unsure of the height of the hook, hold the guitar up by the strap so that it is above the floor, but still at a comfortable height for you to reach. Place the hook where your hand is located. The actual height is going to vary based on your height and how long your guitar strap is.

Drill the screw holes into the stud. The drill bit should match or be slightly smaller than the size of the screws that came with the wall hook.

Attach the hook to the wall using the screws. Pull on it once you have finished. The hook should not move at all. You can use the hook to hang the guitar by the strap as needed.
