How to Get Scratches & Scuff Marks Out of Pergo Floors

The Pergo company bonds the layers of its laminate flooring under high temperatures, but without toxic glues. The embossed surface closely imitates both the look and feel of real wood. The top layer also contains a combination of melamine and aluminum oxide that resists damage from foot traffic and furniture. If your floor has sustained severe damage, have a professional installer replace the damaged planks. However, you can repair most scuffs and scratches yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Spray scuff marks with a solution of one-quarter cup white vinegar mixed with 1 qt. water in a spray bottle. Gentle buff away the scuffs with a dry cleaning cloth. Alternately, use commercial laminate cleaner instead of vinegar and water.

    • 2

Fill small scratches with a matching laminate repair stick or pencil. Press the filler into the scratches, and buff away any extra filler with a cleaning cloth.

    • 3

Fill larger scratches with color-matching repair putty. Clean the area with vinegar and water or commercial cleaner. Then apply and smooth the putty with a putty knife. Wipe away extra putty with a cleaning cloth. Let the repair dry thoroughly.
