Taking Off a Shower Door

The doors in your shower or tub enclosure are designed to slide smoothly along their railings. That makes it easy to open and close the doors, but it also necessitates a different method for removing those doors. Removing the doors in your shower requires that you first lift those doors free of the railings where they are located.

Instructions

    • 1

Move to the door facing the outside of the bathtub or shower enclosure. Lift the shower door up as far as it will go.

    • 2

Pull the shower door up and toward you. Continue to pull on the shower door toward you until it slides up and free of the rail. Pull the door the rest of the way off the rail and set it aside.

    • 3

Move to the door inside the shower or tub enclosure. Lift the shower door up and slide it off the railing.

Check the bottom and side railings and identify the screws that hold them in place. Some railings have screws that are hidden beneath a decorative cover, while others have visible screw heads. Pry the covers up if necessary, then remove the screws that hold the railings in place. Set the screws aside in a safe place, then carefully pry the rails free.
