Sand down the knotty pine walls using fine-grade sanding discs attached to an orbital sander. This prepares the wall to receive the finish.

Clean the walls of sawdust with a clean cloth dampened with mineral spirits.

Allow the wall to dry completely.

Apply a thin coating of shellac to the wall using a paintbrush.

Allow the thin coating to dry completely. Shellac dries very quickly, but check the label for how long this should take.

Repeat steps 4 and 5 for a thicker seal. If you wish, you may also apply a third coat.
