How to Remove Concealed Hinge Doors

Concealed hinges give your cabinets a clean look when the cabinet door is closed since no hinge hardware is visible. Many concealed hinges come in two parts. A hinge bracket is screwed to the inner edge of the cabinet, while a hinge arm is attached to the inside surface of the cabinet door. With conventional hinges, the hinge mounting screws must be removed to remove the door from the cabinet. This is not the case with concealed hinges, as the two parts of the hinge can be separated without removing the hinge retaining screws from the cabinetry.

Instructions

  1. Set Screw Hinge

    • 1

      Open the cabinet door.

    • 2

Support the underside of the door with one hand.

    • 3

Loosen the set screw that secures the hinge arm -- mounted on the cabinet door -- to the hinge bracket -- mounted on the inside vertical surface of the cabinet -- with a Phillips screwdriver using your other hand. Loosen the screw as needed to allow the hinge arm to slide. Do not remove the screw.

    • 4

Loosen the set screw on the remaining hinge or hinges in the same fashion.

    • 5

Slide the door away from the cabinet until the set screws line up with the large holes at the ends of the hinge arms. Pull the hinge arms off the hinge brackets and remove the door from the cabinet.

    • 6

Replace the door by lining up the holes in the ends of the arms with the set screws. Slide the door inward and tighten the set screws.

    Clip-Type Hinge

    • 7

      Open the cabinet door.

    • 8

Grasp the cabinet door with one hand.

    • 9

Push down on the spring-loaded end of the hinge arm mounted to the inner side of the cabinet door with the other hand.

    • 10

Pull the door straight out to remove it from the hinge bracket.

    • 11

Repeat to disconnect the door from the remaining hinge or hinges.

    • 12

Replace the door by lining up the hinge arms onto the hinge brackets. Push the door inward until it clicks into place.

    Hinge Removal

    • 13

Remove the retaining screws from each side of the hinge cup on the inner side of the cabinet door with a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 14

Pull the hinge cups straight up and out of the cabinet door to remove the arm assembly.

    • 15

Remove the screws from the hinge bracket in the cabinet with a Phillips screwdriver.
