Does Peel and Stick Tile Require Extra Adhesive?

Peel and stick tile, also known as self-adhesive tile, includes a layer of adhesive on the back of the tile protected by a removable paper backing. Peel and stick tile requires little preparation before application, with no need for messy adhesive application. Install the self-adhesive tiles properly to ensure that the adhesive has time to cure, and enjoy your floor without the hassle of spreading pasty adhesives that may create a mess around the tile edges.

Instructions

    • 1

Separate the floor into four sections, running a chalk line from wall to wall in the center of each wall, creating four defined sections of the floor. Pull the chalk line from one wall to the other, and then snap the line to leave the chalk residue behind.

    • 2

Sweep the rear section with a broom or dry mop. Pull an adhesive strip off the back of the first tile and place it squarely in the corner of the two chalk lines, inside the rear-most section. Press down firmly, smoothing the tile on the floor. The pressure-sensitive adhesive will secure to the floor.

    • 3

Remove the adhesive strip from the back of the second tile, and place it beside the first tile, lining up the edges evenly. Repeat this process until you reach the wall. Start the next row of tiles above the tile that reaches the wall. Trim tiles to fit against the wall, if necessary, using a utility knife.

Secure tiles in rows until you reach the rear wall. Return to the center of the room and repeat the process on the adjacent section of floor. Work your way through the room, covering the entire floor. Trim tiles to fit doorways and walls with a utility knife.

Wait five days for the adhesive to set before washing the floor.
