How to Repair Delaminated Plywood Spackle

Plywood is not the most durable substance and it can begin to break down or delaminate after years of use or when it is exposed to the elements. Plywood panels that have delamination to their face or back veneers can be repaired, according to Tecotested.com. However, when the damage goes beyond one veneer, repairing delaminated spackle is no longer an option and the damaged panel will have to be cut out and a new panel will have to be installed.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove all the broken or damaged pieces of plywood by using a chisel or a similar device. Make sure you chisel out all of the delaminated area.

    • 2

Place masking tape on the edges of the damaged area. This will keep the epoxy that will be used to repair the plywood from getting into any of the undamaged areas.

    • 3

Apply the spackle -- also known as epoxy -- with a putty knife to the previously damaged area. It should be just a little bit higher than the rest of the plywood when you are finished spreading.

    • 4

Let the spackle set partially, and then use fiberglass tape to reinforce the surface. The fiberglass tape will also prevent damage to the plywood surface in the future.

    • 5

Put another layer of spackle on top of the fiberglass tape and use a roller to smooth it out with a roller. Remove all the excess spackle.
