Kohler Toliet Is Not Filling

Kohler Co. has manufactured kitchen and bath products since the early 1900s. In 1925, the company started making vitreous china toilets and wash basins, and today it produces toilets and other bathroom fixtures. Kohler toilets can have problems common to all toilets. After a toilet is flushed, for example, its toilet bowl or water reservoir may not refill with water. That problem has a number of possible causes. If the product is under warranty, however, you may not have to pay for a new toilet or toilet parts.
  1. Leak

    • One common symptom of a leak somewhere in the system is a toilet's failure to refill after flushing. If a Kohler toilet leaks, you may not see water on the floor immediately. Other telltale signs of leakage include constant noises from the toilet when it is not in use, and a loose handle that jiggles. If you notice those problems in conjunction with a toilet bowl or water reservoir that won't fill with water after you flush the toilet, then call a plumber to locate and repair the leak. Kohler's high-pressure flushing models are prone to water loss.

    Faulty Fill Valve

    • Kohler toilets do not often have a faulty fill valve. If the fill valve doesn't work properly, however, then replacing it can stop the filling problem. After turning off the water in your home, you can begin the process of replacing the old valve. Remove the old valve, and attach the new one to the fill tube. Tighten it completely to prevent leaks.

    Ballcock Assembly

    • Over time, corrosion can cause the ballcock assembly to become sticky, which prevents water from entering the toilet bowl properly after the toilet is flushed. The entire assembly can be removed and scrubbed with steel wool to correct the problem. Alternatively, the entire assembly can be replaced. Installing a water saver is recommended when replacing the assembly. Ballcock assembly corrosion takes years to develop, and so it is unlikely to occur while a Kohler toilet is under factory warranty.

    Warranties

    • Kohler toilets are usually under warranty for three years. If a toilet breaks down during that time, you may be eligible for a replacement product. To make a claim, speak with the dealer or contractor through which you purchased the toilet, or speak to Kohler staff directly. Receipts, invoices and item numbers are necessary for the conversation.
