Professional Directions on How to Reglaze a Cultured Marble Vanity Countertop

A new cultured marble vanity top has a distinctive shine to it. This gloss is given at the factory after manufacturing with a product called Gel Gloss. This is a gel coat that both protects the top and gives it its glossy sheen. Over time, however, this gloss can begin to wear off. The top may become scratched, dull or worn in places, losing the original glossy surface. This shine can be restored at home, however, by first removing the scratches and then applying a fresh coat of Gel Gloss.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply a small amount of liquid car polishing compound to any scratched or dull areas on the cultured marble. Buff it in by hand using a circular motion. The compound will initially dull the surface, but with repeated buffing motions will begin to create a soft shine.

    • 2

Rinse the top well with clean water. Dry thoroughly.

    • 3

Cover the entire counter with a thin coating of car wax. Rub this in by hand using a soft cloth until an even coating has been created.

    • 4

Apply the Gel Gloss to the cultured marble. Squeeze some of the liquid product onto the top and work it in gently with a soft cloth. Take care to cover all areas of the top including sides, backsplash and edges. Let the gel coat dry in place.
