Can I Use Wood Glue to Combine Laminate Transition Pieces That Are Too Short?

If you have laminate particleboard pieces that you want to piece together for a project -- such as an art project or to form a sheath for a wall -- you will need to use glue to assemble the pieces. Keep in mind that you can use wood glue, as it is a heavy-duty glue, but you will need to use glue clamps to hold the pieces together while they dry. Wood glue dries slowly.
  1. Preparing Your Work Surface

    • Make sure you have a wide, even work space in which you can spread out your materials. Cover your work space -- such as a table -- with newspapers or a plastic tablecloth that is disposable. Lay your laminate pieces on the work surface, followed by the glue clamps and the bottle of wood glue.

    Applying the Glue

    • Squeeze a thin line of wood glue across the top or one of the sides of the first laminate piece. Repeat this on the corresponding top or one of the sides of the second laminate piece.

    Putting the Puzzle Together

    • Place the laminate pieces together, so that the sides match up perfectly. As soon as you have done this, place glue clamps on each side of the laminate pieces where they meet.

    Clean Up

    • Wipe away the excess glue with a damp sponge. Allow the glue to dry completely before removing the clamps.
