How to Install a Sink That Hangs on the Wall

Wall-mounted sinks sit against the wall without anything supporting their weight underneath. Since a wall-hung sink does not have a cabinet, it works well in bathrooms or other areas with limited space. Each make and model of wall-mounted sinks has its own set of specific instructions. For best results, always follow the instructions included with the sink. Before you can install the new sink, you must remove the old one.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut away the drywall where the new sink will go with a utility knife and remove it from the wall. Secure a 2-by-6 board to the studs with 3-1/2 inch galvanized nails. This is the supporting block that will help support the sink.

    • 2

Cover the hole in the drywall with the repair panel. Secure the panel in place with several drywall nails. Place drywall tape along the edge of the entire panel. Spread drywall compound over the entire repair panel and out several inches from the panel with a putty knife. Let the repaired drywall dry completely, then sand the surface smooth.

    • 3

Hold the sink mounting plate to the wall where you will install the sink and mark the holes with a pencil. Make sure the marks are positioned on the 2-by-6 you installed in Step 1. Use a power drill to drill the lag holes you previously marked.

    • 4

Secure the sink mounting plate to the wall by screwing lag screws through the designated holes in the mounting plate and into the holes you previously drilled. Check that the mounting plate is level by setting a level on the top of the plate.

    • 5

Slide the wall-mount sink into the mounting plate until it clicks into position. The mounting plate will hold the sink snugly against the wall.

    • 6

Connect the P-trap to the drain by tightening the slip nuts with the wrench. Secure the water supply to the shutoff valve by tightening the nuts on the water supply with a wrench.
