Honolulu Low-Flush Toilet Installation

Installing a low-flush toilet in Honolulu is a procedure that requires standard installation of the separate bowl and tank toilet sections and a general familiarity with a few of the parts and pre-made holes along these sections. Fortunately, one person can complete the task without the supervision of an experienced plumber. Low-flush toilets are designed to be conservation-minded and environmentally-friendly, and until the end of 2010, the Honolulu Board of Water Supply offered a $100 rebate to consumers switching from high-volume flush toilets. At the time of publication, these toilets continued contributing to lower water costs for consumers and the Honolulu area.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a cloth down beside the installation area and take stock of the low-flush toilet's bowl section. Turn the bowl section upside down and place it on the cloth. The base of the toilet will be facing up at you.

    • 2

Find the "horn" area of the bowl. This is the opening on the toilet's bottom. Take the toilet's included wax ring and press it into this opening so the ring's rounded edge goes in first. Press it in until the ring sticks into place.

    • 3

Flip the bowl of the toilet back over.

    • 4

Note the two bolts that come out of the installation area on the floor and stretch upward. Place the bowl section of the toilet over these bolts so they fit through and out of the pre-made holes on the toilet base.

    • 5

Tighten the low-flush toilet's included nuts and washers over these bolts, using a wrench.

    • 6

Pick up the toilet's tank section. Position it over the bowl section so the bolts coming out of the bowl's holes line up with the holes on the bottom of the tank. Lower it down into place so the bolts connect the two sections.

    • 7

Tighten the screws on the outside of the toilet using a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 8

Insert the toilet's water supply tube into the open coupling on the tank section. Once inserted, tighten the coupling over the tube using a socket wrench.

    • 9

Turn the water supply valve at the rear of the toilet counterclockwise to fill the tank with water and prepare the toilet for use.
