How to Convert Delta #70 to 212

In ball-type sink faucets, a spiked ball is used to moderate the water flow. Water is allowed to pass through a notch in the ball and out of the faucet, depending on the orientation of the ball. Users can manipulate the orientation of the ball with the faucet handle, which sits atop the ball's spike arm. But if the ball's notch becomes corroded, water will eventually start to leak out of the faucet's midsection. And while your Delta RP70 may be discontinued, you don't have to replace the entire faucet if your ball is damaged by corrosion. You can replace the RP70 ball with the closely related RP212.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the water valve beneath your sink. Turn the valve clockwise. Use a hex key to remove the set screw from the base of the faucet's handle. Insert the hex key into the set screw, and then turn the key counter-clockwise to remove the screw.

    • 2

Unscrew the base of the handle from the faucet and remove the handle, revealing the adjusting ring beneath it. Remove the adjusting ring from the cap beneath it, using an adjusting ring wrench.

    • 3

Use a pair of alligator pliers to remove the cap that's covering the adjusting ring. Grip the base of the cap with the pliers, and then turn the cap counter-clockwise.

    • 4

Life the spout arm away from the faucet. Remove the cam and cam washer as well. Set the base of the 212 ball into the mouth of the faucet. Place the cam washer on top of the ball's spike, and then place cam on top of the cam washer.

Replace the cap, then tighten it with the alligator pliers. Reinsert the adjusting ring into the cap, and then tighten the ring with an adjusting ring wrench. Screw the handle back onto the adjusting ring. Tighten and align the set screw groove in the handle's base with one of the grooves at top of the adjusting ring.

Insert the set screw into the hole in the handle, and then tighten the set screw with the hex key. Reopen the water valve beneath your sink -- turn the valve counter clockwise.
