Instructions

Care for appliances. Appliances are among the most expensive investments in the kitchen, and dishwashers are perhaps the most prone to problems, including clogging. Remove the lower tray and inspect the filter and spray arms. If holes on the spray arms are clogged, remove them according the manufacturer’s instructions and soak in distilled white vinegar. Clean with a scrub brush for unobstructed dish washing.

Fix loose cabinet hardware. As cabinets age, their hardware is going to loosen or become worn. For hardware that is still in good condition, a quick tightening with a screwdriver is all that’s required. Replace old or outdated hardware. This quick replacement is a good way to improve both the function and appearance of cabinets and requires just a few minutes of work with a drill or screwdriver.

Remove scuffs and stains from the floor. On most modern flooring types, including wood and concrete, scuff marks will come up with an eraser. Stain removal will require a bit more work, and care must be taken to select an appropriate cleaner. Follow manufacturer’s instructions regarding proper cleaning products to prevent damaging the floor.

Repair leaky plumbing. All plumbing leaks, whether large or small, have the potential to cause costly damage. If the leak is located near a threaded joint, use a wrench to tighten the joint or replace the joint if this doesn’t work. Cracks or small holes require filling with epoxy putty and allow it to dry before running water. Large holes or cracks can be plugged with a piece of hose and some clamps, or replaced completely.
