How to Refinish an Old Acrylic Countertop

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the surface of your countertop thoroughly with liquid cleanser to remove any grease and dirt from the surface.

    • 2

Sand the surface of the acrylic with your palm sander. Be sure to cover the entire surface of the countertop. You need to sand the surface only once.

    • 3

Place masking tape over the areas you don't intend to paint.

    • 4

Apply one layer of the bonding agent to the surface of the countertop with the paper towel. Wait five minutes for it to dry.

    • 5

Mix the primer in the spray gun container per the primer's instructions. Put your gas mask on.

    • 6

Spray the surface of the countertop with the primer. Two coats of primer will be sufficient. Allow the primer to dry.

    • 7

Replace the primer container with a container of your acrylic top coat paint. Use the spray gun to apply a coat of paint. Wait 30 minutes.

    • 8

Apply two more coats of paint, waiting 30 minutes between each coat. Allow the paint to dry overnight before removing the tape.
