Instructions

    • 1

Adjust the door to the new climate before installing. Humidity or moisture in the home can warp exterior doors from the inside. Before sealing and hanging a new door, store the door in the home for 24 to 36 hours. This helps the door adapt to its new environment.

    • 2

Lay the exterior door on a flat surface. Position a tarp or sheet on the floor before laying down the door.

    • 3

Apply sealant or finish to the door to prevent warping from moisture, air or humidity, using a paint brush. Buy clear sealant or wood finish from a home improvement store.

    • 4

Cover all six sides of the door. Cover the exterior door thoroughly for maximum protection. Seal the front and back of the exterior door, as well as the top, bottom and sides. Allow the first coat to dry, and then apply a second coat.
