How to Fix ISO Insulation

ISO (polyisocyanurate) insulation comes in a rigid form that resembles thick sheets. The boards come in different widths, and you can trim the boards to different sizes or shapes. The insulation takes the place of traditional insulation material. Its thick and sturdy construction makes it a good choice for areas where you cannot use blow-in or batting insulation. Fixing tiny cracks or gaps in ISO insulation requires the use of ISO Fix Adhesive.

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect the ISO insulation carefully for any damage. Draw a small circle around the damaged spots with a marker. Put on goggles, a face mask and work gloves. Lay a new piece of ISO insulation flat and measure then cut out pieces to replace the broken or damaged areas of old insulation.

    • 2

Trim the damaged areas away from the old insulation with a utility knife. Hold the knife blade at an angle to the insulation and carefully move it through the material. Cut away the damaged areas.

    • 3

Push the ISO Fix Adhesive onto one side. The product comes in a large container that looks similar to a propane tank. Roll the container back and forth, from side-to-side, to mix the adhesive. Gently roll the container for 60 seconds.

    • 4

Tip the container over until it stands upright on its base. Keep the container in this position during the application process. Place the tip of the applicator onto the insulation and carefully apply the adhesive to the area underneath the material.

    • 5

Place one of the new insulation pieces on top of the adhesive and press it into the glue. Repeat this step with each of the remaining pieces of new insulation. Apply the new pieces to the adhesive within three minutes of first applying the glue.
