How to Paint a Bathtub With Enamel Paint

It has been proven that bathrooms and kitchens make up a large part of a home's value. The bathtub is the heart of the bathroom; painting it can help you get a few more years out of it and give your bathroom a whole new look, without spending a ton of money. Instructions

    • 1

Clear the bathtub and the tub area of anything that may get in the way, including shower curtains, drain plugs and hygiene products. Clean the bathtub with hot water and your usual bathroom cleaner.

    • 2

Use wet-and-dry sandpaper to sand down the bathtub until you have a smooth surface to paint on. Rinse the tub and let it dry before proceeding.

    • 3

Once the tub is dry, wipe the entire bathtub with turpentine to remove any traces of soap and then dry with a soft cloth.

    • 4

Using a 50-mm paintbrush, spread one coat of enamel paint as thinly and as evenly as you possibly can. Start at the bottom of the tub and move on to the sides. The last area you should paint is the bathtub rim.

Let the bathtub dry overnight. Paint a second coat the next day and allow it to dry for 48 hours. When the tub is completely dry, fill it with cold water and let it stand for another 48 hours. Afterward, the bathtub should be ready for use.
