How to Apply Pro Painter's Masking Tape

Pro painter's masking tape is much like any other type of masking tape. The purpose of pro painter's masking tape is to protect surfaces from being painted that aren't meant to be painted, or to create straight lines. There are many uses for pro painters masking tape: You can use it to create decorative designs on surfaces, for instance. Pro painter's masking tape will better prevent your paint from bleeding onto another surface than traditional masking tape.

      Wait a full day for any paint to dry before applying pro painter's masking tape.

      Unroll around 3 inches of the tape, but don't tear it off the roll. Press it against the surface you want to protect. If you are applying on a baseboard or window you can use the wall to help keep the pro painter's masking tape straight.

      Press the roll of painter's masking tape against the wall with one hand, and hold the strip of loose tape against the surface with the other hand. When the tape is secured to the surface exactly where you want it, keep pressure on it with your hand and pull the tape roll to unroll more tape.

      Slide your hand that's securing the tape to the surface, slowly, toward the roll of tape to press the newly unrolled painter's tape onto the surface you want to protect from paint. Be sure to rub every bit of the painter's masking tape flat.

      Fix any bubbles or creases in the tape. The pro painter's masking tape needs to be as flat as the surface you are protecting. If there are any bubbles or creases, paint will seep underneath and run onto the surface you are trying to protect.

      Paint the surface needed to be painted. Although the painter's masking tape is there to protect, be careful not to use large amounts of paint that will drip, or sit on the tape. Do not use too much paint it will cause smudging and bleeding. Wait a full day for the paint to dry.

      Peel away the pro painter's masking tape slowly. Inspect the area for any bleeding or smudging.

      Apply touch-up paint where needed.
