How to Paint With a Pad

Brushing straight lines for ceiling corners and molding is challenging if you are inexperienced with a paintbrush. Cutting a straight line requires practice and a steady hand. A hand paint pad makes tricky edging tasks a lot easier. The paint pad applies paint in a straight line around door and window frames, ceiling corners and baseboards. A paint pad holds a fair amount of paint and comes with attached wheels to speed up application time.

Instructions

    • 1

Pop open the paint can and pour approximately 1/2-cup paint into the paint pad tray. Paint pad kits are recommended. Kits include a pad and the appropriate size paint tray for the pad being used.

    • 2

Grab the handle of the paint pad and carefully dip the pad into the paint tray. Saturate the entire underside of the pad. Do not allow paint to go over the top of the pad holder.

    • 3

Tap the underside of the pad on a paper towel or rag to remove dripping paint build-up.

    • 4

Place the edge of the paint pad directly next to the ceiling corner or doorframe you are cutting-in. Slide the paint pad up and down against the edge carefully to create a straight line of paint.

    • 5

Dip the paint pad into the tray to reload paint when necessary. Continue edging the paint line all the way around trim and ceiling corners.

    • 6

Run warm water and soap over the paint pad and tray to thoroughly remove paint. Place the pad in a plastic bag for storage.
