How to Get Rid of Paint on Skin

Painting can be a rewarding but messy activity. However, there's no need to immediately reach for the turpentine to remove paint splashes from your skin. Common household products or kitchen ingredients will usually do the job just as well with the added benefit of being kinder to your skin than harsh chemical cleaners. The method you use will depend on the type of paint you wish to remove. Water-based latex paint, used for interior walls other than bathrooms and kitchens, is easier to clean off than the oil-based paint often used for exteriors.

Instructions

  1. Water-based Paint

    • 1

Run warm water over your skin for several minutes to help loosen the paint.

    • 2

Create a lather using plenty of hand or dish soap.

    • 3

Gently massage the skin with the soap lather to remove the paint.

    • 4

Clean under the fingernails with the soap lather using a manicure brush.

    • 5

Use the manicure brush to remove any stubborn specks of paint that still remain on the skin.

    • 6

Rinse with warm water to remove the soap lather and any leftover paint residue.

    Oil-based Paint

    • 7

Run warm water over your skin for several minutes to help loosen the paint.

    • 8

Leave the skin wet and rub some butter or margarine onto the paint. The oil in the butter or margarine will repel the oil in the paint.

    • 9

Peel off the paint using your fingertips or a manicure brush.

    • 10

Create a lather using more warm water and hand or dish soap.

    • 11

Rinse with warm water to remove the soap, grease and any leftover paint residue.
