How to Repaint Walls Within Two Weeks

A coat of paint adds life and character to a room with otherwise dull walls. Sometimes the paint looks completely different from the little color squares you find at paint stores and you may find after only two weeks that the color doesn't suit the room. Conversely, some paints are not suited to some wall materials or if you experience water damage, the paint may begin to peel off. Whichever the case, if you find yourself having to repaint walls within two weeks, don't fret, with preparation you can complete the job easily.

Instructions

    • 1

Cover the entire surface of the floor and any furniture left in the room with the drop cloths.

    • 2

Apply painter's tape along the edge of the ceiling, above the baseboards and around the door and window frames.

    • 3

Scrape any peeling or loose paint from the walls with the paint scraper.

    • 4

Repair any nail holes that may be present. Use the putty knife to fill deep holes with wall putty. You may need to sand these areas, to make the working surface smooth.

    • 5

Wipe the walls with clean cloths to remove any dust made by sanding. Use a damp cloth to wipe away dirt or grime.

    • 6

Apply the primer to the walls with the paintbrush and roller. The primer works to cover the existing color, making it easier to apply a new color evenly. Primer helps seal the wall material to help in the prevention of water damage.

    • 7

Paint the walls with the new color interior paint. Choose a fine latex or flat paint for the walls to achieve the look you desire. Latex paint comes in gloss and semi-gloss and is sometimes shinier than flat paint.

    • 8

Let the paint dry overnight. Apply a second coat if you want to darken the color.
