How to Remove Paint Solvent

Stripping paint requires the use of noxious chemicals. Because of this, you need to cover everything surrounding the soon-to-be-stripped paint for protection. That includes nearby walls, flooring, furniture and especially yourself. Wear long sleeves, pants, goggles and gloves when stripping paint. Sometimes, however, accidents happen even with proper preparation, and paint solvent drips where it’s not supposed to. Thankfully, it's fairly easy to remove as long as you get to it quickly.

Instructions

    • 1

Press a rag onto the area containing the paint solvent. Soak up as much liquid residue as possible. Place the rags off to the side or discard them.

    • 2

Pour a quarter-size amount of mineral spirits onto a rag. Wipe the mineral spirits onto the paint solvent spot to dissolve and remove it.

    • 3

Dip the sponge into the soapy water. Wring it out. Rub the sponge over the paint solvent to remove any remaining chemical residue.

    • 4

Soak a rag in plain water and rinse any soap off the area. Dry the spot with a soft towel or let it air dry overnight.
