How to Lubricate Hurricane Accordion Shutters

Accordion Hurricane Shutters are one of the strongest most reliable form of storm shutters. One of the only problems associated with the accordion-style is that the shutters are permanently attached to your home and subject to all sorts of weather conditions. It is only a matter of time before moving parts begin to freeze up without the proper maintenance. Lubricate the shutters monthly or bi-monthly to help them work like new when they are needed most.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove any obstructions from the accordion shutter tracks. Wasps and hornets often build nests in the upper tracks of accordions. Remove any nest from the tracks using a screwdriver or other device.

    • 2

Spray all wheels and slat pegs generously with a liquid silicone spray. Open and close your accordion shutters several times to allow the silicone to penetrate wheel bearings and other moving components.

    • 3

Spray the shutter's lock and exterior lightly with lubricant to finish each shutter. This adds life to the locking device and ensures it will be in working condition when needed.
