How to Install a Pressure-Balancing Unit in a Kohler Shower

The pressure-balancing unit in a Kohler shower is the valve that balances and maintains the water pressure in your faucet. This unit goes inside of the shower body valve, the valve attached to your home's water lines inside of the shower wall. The installation is fairly straightforward and usually takes about an hour to complete if you have everything on hand.

Instructions

Place the pressure-balancing valve inside of the retaining housing, also called the collar. Insert the entire assembly into the shower body valve, with the back end going in first. The back end is the part with the inlet gaskets; the front side has a long stem called the rod.

    • 2

Tighten the screws on the end of the retaining collar with a screwdriver to fasten the collar to the shower body valve.

    • 3

Slide the stop limit collar onto the end of the valve rod and tighten the collar screw with an Allen wrench. Place the trim plate over the valve. Insert and thread on the two trim plate screws by hand. The screws thread into the two mounting holes on the shower body valve. Tighten the screws with a screwdriver.

Place the gasket and diverter knob over the diverter stem, and tighten the screw under the diverter knob, if the faucet has a diverter. If not, go on to the next step.

Place the handle over the faucet stem. Line up the handle so the lever is facing down. Install the handle screw and tighten it with an Allen wrench.
