# How to Fix Scratches on a Wood Laminate Cabinet
Laminate is useful because it resembles wood while not suffering from wood's vulnerability to water. Laminate is made of fiberboard compressed under high pressure. It is more cost-effective than wood and is also simpler to clean. As a result, cabinets are often made of laminate and while they are resistant to damage, they do get scratched if enough force is applied. Fortunately, fixing scratches in a wood laminate cabinet only requires a few basic materials.

- Damp rag
- Wax pencil
- Laminate putty
- Butter knife

Wipe off the cabinet with a damp rag to ensure the scratches are clean before beginning repair.

Color in any minor scratches in the cabinet with a wax pencil that matches the cabinet color. This makes the scratches more difficult to see, especially from a distance. Wax crayons are often available from floor and furniture stores.

Apply laminate putty into deeper scratches using a butter knife. Wipe away any excess with a rag and allow it to dry. Once the putty has solidified, color it with the wax pencil if necessary to match the floor coloring.
