Carbonized Hardwood Flooring Installation

Carbonized hardwood flooring is actually carbonized stranded bamboo flooring, not wood. Designed to provide a variation to traditional hardwood flooring, carbonized bamboo floors install the same way as hardwood but stand out due to their richer colors and intricate patterns. Strands of bamboo pressed together form the floor planks, which are then carbonized for a decorative finish. The planks are easy to install and do not require professional assistance. Carbonized bamboo planks are designed for installation on both concrete and wood subfloors.

Instructions

    • 1

Spread a roll of paper underlayment over the floor where you want to install the carbonized planks. Use as many rolls of underlayment as needed to cover the floor, with the edges of adjacent rolls overlapping by a few inches. Staple the underlayment strips to each other and the subfloor using a staple gun.

    • 2

Snap a chalk line along the edges of the floor, spaced three-eights inches apart from each corresponding wall. This line serves as the guideline for the flooring. Remove any existing baseboard trim before snapping the line.

    • 3

Lay the first row of carbonized floor board planks on the line, with their grooved edges facing the wall. The three-eighths-inch gap between the board and the wall allows for seasonal expansion. Shoot floor nails every 10 inches along both edges of the plank to secure it to the floor.

    • 4

Lay the second course of planks against the previous row. Slide the planks to secure their grooved sides into the tongue sides of the first course. Hold a piece of scrap wood plank against the outer edge of the board and tap it with a mallet to tighten the joints. Arrange the boards so they are staggered between rows, so you do not line the end seams from rows. Use a circular saw to cut the last board to size in each row.

    • 5

Shoot nails every 10 inches along the second course to secure the planks to the floor. Repeat this process of securing carbonized flooring planks until you lay the next-to-last course.

    • 6

Measure the gap between the wall and the edge of the installed row. Deduct three-eights of an inch from the width of the carbonized planks before ripping them to size using a circular saw. Lay this course over the floor, flush against the previous row. Insert nails into this row to secure it to the base.

Install floor trim over the three-eighths-inch expansion gap along the floor. Lay the trim directly above the edge of the floor and insert nails to secure it to the wall.
