How Do You Hide the Mud-Set Tiles?

Mud-set tiles are commonly used in ceramic flooring installation. Sand and Portland cement is mixed and poured over the floor prior to the tile application to form an inch-thick coating that's then smoothed over so it's consistent. The ceramic tiles are then placed over coating. The "mud" provides a durable base and backing for the tiles to set in, which helps the floor hold together for a longer period of time. If you're unhappy with the appearance of your mud-set tiles, hide them from sight.

Instructions

    • 1

Move your furniture so it covers the tiles on the sides of the room. This still provides a walkway through the space while giving you fewer tiles to hide.

    • 2

Lay down throw rugs to cover larger sections of the space. The rugs come in a variety of colors and styles so choose ones that fit your taste and match your current decorating style.

    • 3

Install laminate over the tiles in rooms where the tile is more noticeable. Laminate attaches without the need to remove the pre-existing mud-set tiles. Start at one side of the room and lay down panels. Each laminate panel slides into the one next to it and locks in place. This gives you a wood-like appearance for your floor that completely hides the tiles.
