How to Troubleshoot a Low Water Temperature on a Kohler Generator

Kohler manufactures a wide variety of steam generators to make your shower and bathing experiences more enjoyable. Some models install directly into the shower while others are portable. Any time there is a mixture of moisture and electronics there is a risk of malfunction. If your Kohl generator is suffering from low water temperature, troubleshoot it yourself to see if the problem can be fixed without the added time and expense of professional repair.

Instructions

    • 1

Verify that the steam generator is getting power. If it is plugged into an outlet, check the outlet to make sure the outlet functions properly. If the outlet isn't working, reset the breaker. The generator may be pushing the circuit above maximum capacity, resulting in breaker shutdown. If that's the case, the generator needs to be relocated or other devices on the same circuit need shutting down.

    • 2

Check the water level in the generator. If the level drops too much, the generator shuts down because it can't run optimally and the water still present cools down. This shouldn't happen if the generator is plugged directly into a water line unless the valve is closed.

    • 3

Pull at the buttons on the generator slightly to ensure none of them are stuck. If a button gets caught in the "pressed" position, the generator won't work properly until the button unsticks.

    • 4

Turn up the steam setting on the generator to see if the water gets warmer in response. The generator may be set too low.

    • 5

Clean the steam generator thoroughly in accordance with the instructions for your specific model. If your water has a high mineral content, there could be scale building up inside the generator that is preventing it from heating the water up effectively. Removing the scale helps restore the generator to proper function.

Examine the display of your steam generator for error messages. Error 5 or Error 6 means the tank exceeded its maximum temperature so the system shut down. Error 5 may also indicate an internal failure that requires professional maintenance or replacement.
