How to Clean Cement Air Ducts

Cleaning the air ducts in your home not only improves air quality but also lowers your heating and cooling costs. Cleaning every two years is recommended; changing your heating and cooling system filters more frequently — from monthly to quarterly — will improve both air quality and system efficiency. Also, frequent filter changing also means less work when cleaning the ducts. You can hire a professional or save money and do it yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Use an extension brush to clean dirt and debris from the cement air ducts. After removing the floor vent covers, extend the brush as necessary to brush all sides of the duct.

    • 2

Use a wet/dry vacuum to remove all the loosened dirt from the air duct. You may need an extension hose to reach deep into the duct.

    • 3

Change the air filters. After cleaning the cement air ducts, change your furnace filters. For optimum efficiency, change these filters frequently.
