How to Test a P-Trap in a Shower

Once you've installed a new P-trap beneath your shower unit, you'll want to make sure it's working properly before you reseal your shower's tray. If you put your unit back together before checking your P-trap, you'll have to take your shower unit apart again if you identify a leak or blockage later. This will be particularly frustrating if you need to remove tile courses or carry out any other destructive work to gain access to your trap.

Instructions

    • 1

Shine a torch under your shower tray so you can clearly see your P-trap.

    • 2

Start your shower and turn it to its highest pressure setting.

    • 3

Look for any leaks beneath your shower around your P-trap. Pay particular attention to the connections that secure your P-trap to your shower tray and waste pipes. Feel around the joints with your fingers to check for moisture.

    • 4

Take a look in your shower tray to make sure water is draining through your trap properly and there's no blockage.
