How to Remove a Door With Nailing Fins

Nail fins are aluminum strips that are sometimes attached to a door or window during installation. The fin gets screwed into the edges of the door to provide an additional seal against air leaks. These fins won't provide any significant barrier if you need to uninstall a door that has them. Removing a door with nailing fins requires just some basic tools.

     Examine the door's hinges to see if the nailing fins are accessible.

     Unscrew any nailing fins from the door that are making it more difficult to open the door or to get to the hinges. If the nailing fin was nailed in, the back of a hammer or needle-nose pliers will help you pull the fin off the door.

     Unscrew the hinges and remove them from the door frame.

     Pull the door off the frame.
