How to Install Toro Snow Blower Chains

The larger two-stage Toro snow blower models send power to the wheels to propel the machine as well as power to the auger and blower mechanisms. The self-propelled models are Toro's largest snow blowers. In weather and snow conditions where the rubber tires do not provide enough traction, tire chains can be installed over the tires for an extra level of traction. Toro and snow blower dealers sell the chains as an extra accessory.

Instructions

    • 1

Place blocks under the snow blower so both tires are off the ground.

    • 2

Remove both wheels from the snow blower by pulling the pin that goes through the end of the axle and sliding each wheel off the axle.

    • 3

Lay one wheel chain flat with the links facing outward, and place a wheel center on the chain.

    • 4

Wrap the chain around the wheel and secure the chain with the links. The outside links lock into place, and the inside links hook and can be pinched closed. Repeat the chain installation for the second wheel and tire.

    • 5

Slide the wheels back onto the axle and secure with the axle pin. For powered wheels, the pin must go through both the hole in the wheel hub and the hole in the axle.
