United Gilsonite Laboratories makes a product for floors called DRYLOK Latex Concrete Floor Paint. This is used for floors that are not subject to water seepage. It is specifically made for masonry and comes in a variety of colors. DRYLOK Latex Concrete Floor Paint is made to stand up to foot traffic and washing. It withstands moisture, making it ideal for both outdoor and outdoor use. Clean surfaces painted with DRYLOK Latex Floor Paint with soap and water.
DRYLOK masonry treatment and latex-based DRYLOK are suitable for waterproofing walls. Both products are used on interior and exterior walls preventing water seepage. The products are similar with 10-year warranties and are made for use on masonry. The latex-based treatment dries quicker, has less odor during application and cleans up easier than does traditional masonry treatment. You can paint over the masonry treatment if desired. Let the traditional masonry treatment cure for 30 days before painting with 100 percent acrylic latex paint, while the latex-based treatment can be painted after 24 hours.
As an alternative to DRYLOK, find an epoxy or latex-waterproofing compound. These products typically come in a powder, to which you add water creating a compound that spreads over the floor. Make sure that any product you purchase specifies it is designed for use on floors, which take more abuse than walls.
One alternative way of waterproofing your floor, using traditional DRYLOK or latex-based DRYLOK is to applying the product as directed, letting it cure without foot traffic and then covering it with linoleum. The DRYLOCK provides the waterproofing for the floor, while the linoleum protects the DRYLOK from foot traffic. This method works best and is most economical in areas where you plan a finished floor. If the plan is for the area to remain unfinished, such as a basement, selecting another waterproofing product is more economical.
