How to Install Snap Closing Semi-Concealed Hinges

A concealed hinge is one in which the hinge is not visible when the door is closed. A partially concealed, or semi-concealed, hinge can still be seen but is not as noticeable as a regular hinge would be. A snap closing hinge helps pull the door shut when it is being closed. Installing snap closing, partially concealed hinges on a cabinet provides a door that self-closes without the hinges being overly noticeable. Installing these types of hinges requires a few basic tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a 1/4-inch-wide arced slot into the hinge side of the cabinet door using a router table if the door isn't already pre-cut for the hinge. The table bit should be between 6 and 8 inches in diameter, depending on the size of the hinges. Follow any instructions provided on the packaging for the hinges.

Align the hinge plate so it fits in the arced slot, and secure it into position by drilling the mounting screws through the holes in the hinge plate.

Line up the hinge on the cabinet door to the frame of the cabinet, and mark it with a pencil. Use that mark to line up the other side of the hinge, and secure it in place with mounting screws. Repeat this procedure for the second hinge to fully secure the door to the frame.
