How to Pump Excess Water From a Garage or Driveway

Excessive water builds up in a garage or driveway if there isn't sufficient drainage in the area to remove it coupled with an incline that causes the water to pool. While the long-term solution is to level off the garage or driveway and improve drainage, you can pump the water out for temporary reprieve from excess water.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the hose of a wet/dry vac into the deepest portion of the water. A wet/dry vac works like a regular vacuum, except it functions equally well at vacuuming water. It pumps water through the hose into a reservoir. You might need an extension cord to power the vacuum, depending on where the water is located. Keep the power cable dry when using the vacuum.

Turn the wet/dry vac on and hold the hose in place as it pumps water from the driveway or garage to the reservoir.

    • 3

Monitor the reservoir level on the vacuum. Unplug the vacuum and dump the reservoir out when it is close to full.

Continue this process until all the excess water is gone.
