How to Install and Finish a Delta Shower Valve

The Delta shower valve installs on your home's interior plumbing lines, in a valve called the shower body valve. This valve is preinstalled on the plumbing, so all you have to do is install the faucet's valve, called the cartridge, the trim and handle. The trim plate will finish the installation, covering up the hole in your drywall used to install the shower body valve. The entire job takes about an hour, but does not involve expert plumbing skills.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the gaskets on the end of the valve on each inlet hole, if they are not already installed. Slide the cartridge into the shower body valve inside the wall.

    • 2

Put the trim sleeve over the cartridge and place the trim, the round plate, over the sleeve on the shower wall. Slide the screws into the mounting holes and tighten them with a screwdriver to install this trim plate.

    • 3

Install the handle onto the rod on the end of the cartridge. Adjust the handle so it is positioned properly between the hot and cold marks on the trim plate. Thread the handle screw into the handle's mounting hole and tighten it with an Allen wrench.

Attach the cover to the handle on the top of the handle and tighten the cover screw with the Allen wrench or a screwdriver, whichever fits the screw head. This attaches the cover to the faucet cartridge rod.
