How to Remove Concrete Edging From Around an In-Ground Pool

The concrete edging, also referred to as “coping,” around the rim of your fiberglass in-ground pool does more than just make the pool look pretty. The edging also helps your pool hold its shape and gives swimmers something to grasp when hoisting themselves in and out of the pool. Without proper care, the concrete edging will become cracked or damaged. This cracked edging can be removed, but you must be careful to avoid damaging the rest of the pool.

Instructions

    • 1

      Drain the pool.

    • 2

Grasp the sledgehammer halfway down the handle. Make sure that you have a tight grip on it and that your hands are positioned on the handle in such a way that you can control the movements of the sledgehammer, yet can get enough power in each swing to break the concrete.

    • 3

Whack the top of the concrete edging with the sledgehammer until it cracks. Work your way around the pool breaking up the concrete. Put down the sledgehammer.

    • 4

Put on the gloves to protect your hands while handling concrete fragments. Pick up loose with your hands and discard. Wedge the crowbar underneath stubborn chunks to dislodge them. Continue until all of the concrete pool edging has been removed.
