Cut four 34-inch long pieces of 2-by-4-inch board with a circular saw. Cut four 28-inch long pieces of 2-by-4-inch board with a circular saw. Lay two of the 34-inch boards on the floor, parallel to each other and resting on the broad sides. Lay two 28-inch boards perpendicular to and on top of them. One board should be even with the ends of the 34-inch boards, and the other 12 inches in from the ends. Nail them together with two 8d nails at each intersection. Make another structure that's exactly the same as this one with the other two 34-inch boards and other two 28-inch boards. These are the end pieces of the work bench.

Cut a piece of plywood to measure 28 by 46 inches. Raise the end pieces of the workbench up and face them toward each other with the crosspieces facing in, and the open ends on the floor. Lay the plywood onto the lower crosspieces and nail it to the crosspieces with 8d nails, spaced 6 inches apart.
