How to Repair Rubber Tiles

Often used around playgrounds and in gyms, rubber tiles prevent injuries by absorbing impacts while also providing a slip-resistant surface. Such tiles often require a larger initial investment than more traditional surfacing options like wood or concrete, but they are durable and last for years when properly maintained. If a rubber tile gets damaged, it needs repair immediately before mold or bacteria can start growing inside any cracks or tears of the material.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the rubber tile by sweeping off any loose debris, dust or dirt with a broom. Rinse the tile with a hose and then mop it with warm water and a mild detergent to further clean the surface and remove staining.

    • 2

Inspect the rubber tile for defects after it's fully dried. Rubber tiles are durable, but they sometimes crack and are susceptible to puncture.

    • 3

Treat any cracks with epoxy from a rubber repair kit. Fill the crack with the epoxy and then push the two sides of the crack together. Hold them together for several minutes until the epoxy starts to cure. Wipe away any excess with a damp rag before it hardens. Wear rubber gloves to prevent skin exposure with the glue.

Fill in any holes in the rubber by gluing the missing piece back into the hole with the use of epoxy or by filling the hole with replacement foam and covering it with a rubber repair patch. The patch glues down over the hole. Place a weight on top of the repair for about 15 minutes to help hold it down while the glue dries.
